(an extract from the book – Rich and Free by Brian Bieler)
Many business owners discover after years of effort their business never grew or made enough money to get them to their goals. They eventually wound up selling or closing their business and going back to a job to get a paycheck.
They personally become so integral to the day-to-day operations they never took the time to work ON THE BUSINESS and make it grow. The plan from the very beginning should lead you as the owner and creator of your business to work ON the business. The job of the business owner is to make the business a success and not to be a worker in the business.
If you are thinking of doing something so small it will only support you, it is not a business, and it is being self-employed. Many people are so frustrated with a job or dead end career they will try almost anything to get freedom and independence. However, a business that owns your time may turn into a nightmare. When you start a business, your goal is to own the business, not BE the business.
A business does not stand still. It is either going up or it is going down. In business, you may be doing fine until you have direct competition and they may change everything. That is why you want to be moving ahead, not staying even. Growing the business is not just for the money, it is for the protection of the business.
A business owner should be flexible.
